Why should you always have Self-integrity!

What is Self-integrity?

The simplest way to put this, is about being true to your values and what you stand for in life (generic definition isn’t?).

Let me explain why your job and expertise are some of the most critical aspects that need self-integrity?

Four years ago, I migrated to the U.S. seeking asylum. Everybody knows how hard has been the immigration battle lately, especially for the last 10 years. You go through family conflict, financial hardship, stress, depression, homesickness, and not to mention all the paperwork and interviews you may go through in the first couple of years (Which is understandable, I guess!), then waiting, waiting, and waiting …

However, this is not my topic, and not trying to tell you my story, but I want to emphasize that life challenges have nothing to do with you NOT being working on self-integrity! Actually, challenges burnishing your values and gives you a better understanding of what things you need to work on, and self-integrity one of them!

Being true to your values makes it easier for you to get a job, build a career, and make friends and family results in a successful life. I see many people out in the world struggling to get a job or make a career or even be good at what they do! I am not talking about the struggle during the current pandemic situation, which we always hope to ends soon.

However, the pandemic worked out well for some people and businesses; in fact, some people start making money working from their bedroom! (it’s totally up to you!). Yes, it is all about making money and living the luxury, or getting your dream job, but those do not come effortlessly! Think about it; if it were that easy, Don’t tell the world!!!

You work your way up, do what you love, what you feel you good at! Invest your time, expect nothing in return. When you say you are going to do something, please do it! Most importantly, Identify and define your values, and Be mindful of your thoughts!

I had a Bachelor’s degree in engineering before I migrated to the U.S. with fundamental English proficiency; I had to take my cousin to the DMV back then to help me understand some of the slang, slogan Californication language.

I worked at restaurants, went to ESL classes, saved money on the side to take some online courses to work on my values, in this case, language and engineering knowledge. I could’ve sat home and cash out my welfare every month and spending the rest of the day watching Netflix!

But I know this is not your real values, and you must be true to yourself. When you look for a job, put your expertise and values upfront, do not give yourself bigger than your size because I assure you, you will sink one day! You may claim to have a set of values or expertise, but if they are not reflected in your actions, then you lack self-integrity!

If you made it through the pandemic so far, you are fantastic, and you can do even better by working on yourself by putting more effort into your education, work, career, friendship, and family. Do it to yourself, not to your manager, not to your employer.

I hope 2021 not like 2020. Happy new you!
